Nestled in a deep valley, malaria-free Sabie is a very pretty town, catering for the whole family. Situated in the center of one of the largest man-made forests in the world, the banks of streams are covered with beautiful wild flowers and ferns. Bridal Veil Falls, Lone Creek Waterfall, Forest Falls, and the Horseshoe Falls are in close proximity to the town. The town was originally called Grootfontein as the region is surrounded by numerous springs, fountains, and waterfalls.
Through the years Sabie has evolved into a favourite tourist destination as all main attractions are situated close by and eco-tourism and adventure can best be experienced here.
Close to Pilgrim’s Rest, Graskop, Hazyview, the Kruger National Park and Blyde River Canyon, Sabie will be a good choice for any holidaymaker.
It is an easy days drive to see the Blyde River Canyon (80 km) the third largest canyon in the world (after the Grand Canyon in America and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia) with the famous 3 Rondavels as the focal point which overlooks the river and dam below.
Along the way to the Blyde River Canyon, you can see the other amazing sights of the Panorama route, including Mac Mac falls and pools, Maria Shires, Lisbon, Berlin and Forest falls, the amazing Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Pinnacle and Gods Window (on a clear day you can see Mozambique)
Lastly, if time permits, visit the old mining town of Pilgrims Rest, try gold panning or a visit to the old mine managers house “Alanglade” or just a drink at the Royal Hotel.
When you have finished seeing the beautiful panorama scenery why not visit some of the other beautiful attractions including.
Kruger Park – Phabeni gate is only 50 km away, this famous park is a must to see even if it is only a day visit, other animal place outings include Chimpanzee Eden, Elephant Sanctuary, Moholoholo Rehabilitation center and the Cheetah project at Kapama
Other attractions for a day’s outing are the Sudwala Caves, Kaapsehoop famous for its wild horses and Blue swallows, Nelspruit Botanical gardens with its huge collection of Cycads, Casterbridge with its specialty shops and motor car museum.
If you are more of an adrenalin person then there are plenty of things for you to do in and around Sabie
Adventure in the form of 4X4 trails, Quad and mountain bike riding, paintball, white water rafting, tubing and the Aerial Cable trail at 1.2
You can also try the big swing and High wire at Graskop or the bridge swing at Sabie
During the daytime in Sabie take a horse ride or in the evening try the caving by candlelight
Helicopter, Microlight flights and Hot air ballooning are also available
For those who like sport why not have a round of Golf at Sabie or Pilgrims Rest (9 holes) or try your luck at Trout Fishing
